Everlane Customer Support Employee Relief Fund

My name is Jamie, and I am one of the 42 remote part-time Everlane customer experience team members laid off without warning or notice on March 27, 2020. Many of you voiced your support through our media channels and had asked if there was a way to help us out, so we decided to create this page in response to these heartfelt messages.

For those not in the loop, Everlane is a company that touts itself as a "radically transparent" and "ethical" company in its marketing language and its supply chains, guaranteeing the well-being of workers in the factories they use. Ironically, the repeated actions taken against its own lowest paid employees show that Everlane is anything but radically transparent or ethical.

Everlane framed these lay-offs to be a direct result of COVID-19's impact on its revenue. However, just a few days prior to the abrupt dismissal of my fellow workers, our team had asked Everlane for voluntary recognition of our union. While we did not receive a response at the time, Everlane did respond—by laying off a majority of our team and issuing full-time work for the remaining 16 members. While we are absolutely happy that a portion of our team was able to secure full-time positions, the rest of us have been left to find ways to make ends meet during a pandemic in which seeking a new job is nearly impossible.

Furthermore, on March 17, 2020, Everlane suddenly fired its eight temp workers from Atrium, who had been with us since the latter part of 2019. Up until the very last days prior to this announcement, Everlane had been dangling a potential permanent position on the customer experience team, using it as leverage to push the temp workers to do even more on their shifts. Though the holiday team was small, they answered a huge bulk of the incoming emails when customer inquiry levels were high. Despite their clear work ethic, Everlane gave my fellow workers just a three-day notice of their removal, again in the middle of a pandemic. You can read more about this here.

Previously, as a team of 66 people (including the holiday team), we have answered thousands of emails/chats/messages with as much empathy and kindness as possible. Our team consists of stay-at-home moms, artists, students, and more. Many of us relied on Everlane for a steady income, especially after being reassured that there would be no lay-offs during this uncertain time. The shock of this news has been emotionally exhausting, but our team is here for each other and finding ways to support each other in any way we can. We all love this team, and we are so glad to witness the outpouring of support from so many people in response to these untimely and unethical decisions.

Every cent donated to this GoFundMe will go to living expenses, food, shelter, medical needs, and other necessities for those who were affected by this directly. It will include the temporary Atrium workers who were also unceremoniously fired on March 20, 2020.

If you have the financial capacity, please consider donating, and if not, please share this page among those you know. All of your support means so much, and our team cannot thank you enough.
