The Everest Volunteer / Washington Twp. Fire Dept. is seeking funding for building a new fire station. We are a small volunteer fire dept. located in Northeast Kansas and serve a population of approximately 600 people. Currently our fire dept. occupies two outdated, insufficient, and structurally unsound facilities. Station 1 was built in the 1940's and designed to house fire apparatus of that vintage. Station 2 was purchased from a private citizen in the early 1990's and was built as a hobby shop in the late 1980's. Station 2 was never designed to house fire apparatus, but the volunteer firefighters at the time made due as our all volunteer staff continue to do to this day. As the pictures show we are in dire need of a new facility. As the pictures show, there is not enough room for all of our apparatus. Many of our trucks are against walls or parked behind other trucks. This slows our responses and causes delays if a truck breaks down.
Our firefighters are 100% volunteer and every dollar goes to providing fire protection, rescue services, and medical first response to our community. We provide service for a budget of less than $15,000 per year. This barely covers the cost of fuel, repairs, and supplies, it does not cover the cost of a new fire station. All donations will go to the building of a new fire station that can safely and adequately house all of our apparatus and will serve the community for years to come. The donations will assure our budget can go to fire suppression, rescue, and medical services and our mission to community protection can continue as it has for the last nearly 100 years. Your generous donations will go to help dedicated firefighters continue to do their job, and would be appreciated each time our pagers go off and each time we return safe to a new fire station.
