Now, more than 700 days into the war, they are being displaced again. But this time is different. This time, they have nothing left. All their resources have been drained across the past two years of trying to survive. They can’t afford a tent. They can’t pay a driver to take them to another so-called “safe zone.” They are stuck, with no shelter and no way out — not even the most basic protection from the coming rain.

Their son Mohammad is growing up surrounded by rubble instead of toys. He doesn’t have a bed of his own — he shares a thin mattress with his parents. He’s never known stability. And yet, somehow, he still smiles. That smile is the only thing that gives Amira and Abed Al-Rahim the strength to keep going.
