Evelyn's Love for Literacy Book Drive

Hello, I'm Bethany and Mama to Evelyn.

In the summer of 2023, Our Evelyn, was diagnosed with severe autoimmune chronic illness.

For her, she was fine one day and within two weeks unable to function. She has undergone multiple blood transfusions; one of which was lifesaving. She's experienced several procedures, many biopsies and hundreds of tests at this point. She has spent a month of her life in the hospital over the last few months, traveled out of state to have her case reviewed by other eyes and much more. The experience we've all shared has been nothing short of difficult.

This situation she is facing is spoke of with such bleakness. It's considered a dark and never-ending life path that is filled with constant medical care and limitations. These words are even darker when the onset of illness occurs in childhood. It has brought us to our knees with grief and sadness. But it has also shown us so much hope too.

After such an incredibly difficult year, she is certainly still not out of the woods and has a long road ahead of her. But in her true self, she wants to give back to her community. Evelyn is an avid reader, writer, poet and lover of literature. One of the moments that brough Evelyn joy while she was inpatient was the ability to select a book from the Giving Library. In honor of her own health journey and her upcoming birthday, she has decided that her act of giving back is to host a book drive in hopes to lift the spirits of kids, just like her, who need it most.

We hope you will join us in our efforts to purchase books to gift to children facing significant health struggles.

We have partnered with our favorite independent bookstore, Schuler Books, where we will be purchasing new books with the funds collected during this time. If donations exceed our intended goal, all additional donations will go directly towards the purchase of books for Mott Children's Hospital.
