Hi there,

My name is Athena, and I’ve created this GoFundMe to support my mom and siblings as we navigate my little brother Jayce’s ongoing medical struggles.

For the past three years, Jayce has been fighting an illness that has brought more questions than answers. He has endured countless tests, misdiagnoses, and setbacks, all while trying to hold onto the childhood he deserves. Now, at just 10 years old—soon to be 11 on March 19—he has spent more time in hospital rooms than in classrooms or playgrounds.

This past year has been especially difficult, with more hospital stays than we can count. He is currently admitted to the Alberta Children's Hospital—his second hospitalization - in just three weeks.

Through all of this, our mother has been his unwavering advocate, his voice when he has none, and his source of strength when he is too weak to fight. She has battled tirelessly for proper care, better treatments, and the answers he so desperately needs. But she isn't just Jayce’s warrior—she is also a single mother to all three of us, juggling the impossible weight of parenthood, work, and the emotional toll of watching her child suffer.

Our mother has always been the kind of person who gives everything she has to those she loves, often leaving nothing for herself. Even in the face of unimaginable stress, she never complains, never falters. She stood by my father through his illness before his unexpected passing in 2016, and now, she stands by Jayce with the same unwavering love and resilience. But I see the exhaustion in her eyes.

The weight of rising costs—rent, bills, groceries, and daily necessities—along with the financial burden of medications, supplements, and treatments that insurance won’t cover, is crushing her. She tries to hide it, but I know she is reaching her breaking point.

I wish more than anything that I could take away Jayce’s pain and erase my mother’s worries. But as a full-time college student, my hands feel tied. I can’t fix my brother’s illness, and I can’t make life easier for my mom in the way I wish I could. What I can do is ask for help.

I am hoping that by starting this fundraiser, I can ease even a small part of my mother’s burden. I want her to be able to breathe again, to focus on what truly matters—Jayce, my sister, and hopefully, even herself. Every single dollar donated will go directly to supporting our family through this incredibly difficult time.
