Youth Empowerment Symposium ("YES")
Donation protected
A Youth Empowerment Symposium ("YES!") is being held at Castlemont High School in Oakland, California on October 18, 2014 from 9:00a.m. to Noon and the event is open to the public. I need your support in raising funds to pay for program materials and providing breakfast and lunch for the youth participants.
During the symposium we bring together the youth in our community with lawyers and judges and educate them as to their rights and responsibilities when they turn 18. Some of the nation's best attorneys and judges will be participating in this event which has been held across the nation, with a current, special emphasis on educating young people as to their rights and conduct when encountering law enforcement officials (newly added "Know Your Rights" featured presentation in light of the recent events in Ferguson, Missouri).
We start with one general assembly and presentation, then go into smaller breakout sessions with assigned legal topics, then reconvene as one group and have the students report out to each other as to what area of the law they learned about. We often incorporate role play - students acting as lawyers.
I hope I can count on your support and you will make a donation today!
The typical participants are middle school and high school students, but ALL are welcome. We would also like to be able to provide transportation.
We are planning for approximately 200 participants. The National Bar Association's youth publication, "How the Law Treats You Differently When You Turn 18" will provide the program content -

We are particularly looking for sponsors to underwrite the cost of reproducing this publication.
The symposium will provide a “one-of-a-kind” and unique networking opportunity for your students to interact with attorneys, judges and politicians from across the nation.
We hope that we can count on your investment in our youth - our future!
Please consider donating now!
Co-sponsored by the National Bar Association ("NBA"), the California Association of Black Lawyers ("CABL"), and the Charles Houston Bar Association.
