Ethan’s Relapse Journey
Donation protected
As many of you know Ethan and his family have been going through every parents worse nightmare. At just 18 months old Ethan was diagnosed with High-Risk Infant Medulloblastoma on Christmas Eve’22, he had a large brain tumour and had surgery followed by 6 months of high dose chemo and despite many challenges along the way he got through it and was declared ‘NED’ (no evidence of disease), he rung the end of treatment bell and life moved on as the family continued to make memories with their beautiful children. Ethan remained clear of disease for 8 amazing months and the family were able to enjoy an amazing Christmas, making up for the previous one.
Things were just starting to get back to normal when on the 31st January Ethan went into QA hospital for a routine MRI scan, the family received the devastating news the following day that Ethan had relapsed, there was another brain tumour and he needed more treatment. Ethan has now had the brain tumour removed during a 6 hour surgery and is recovering in hospital with Paul and Jennie by his side. Ethan will then have to undergo Radiotherapy in London for 6 weeks which will leave him with life-long cognitive problems and learning difficulties, the doctors can’t say to which severity but the family have been advised the side effects will be ‘significant’ due to his young age. This will be followed up with a year or so of Chemotherapy. The family now face having to care for their 5 year old twin girls Amber and Freya whilst being with Ethan in London, they will struggle with work and this treatment is much more long term than his previous chemo.
If we can support them in anyway the family would be very appreciative just to make things a little easier for them as Ethan’s treatment continues and they try to keep life as normal as possible for the girls. Thank you x x
