Hi there, my name is Melissa Rainville ( McGrath) and on January 21st 2024, it started out to be a good day for me. The sun was out, the kids were in good spirits, and it was going to be a typical quiet , cold Sunday.

Little did I know, a message through Facebook was about to change my life and continues to do so to this very day.

You see, a friend from high school sent me a message. It was an official missing person poster with my brother’s face. Mathew is missing. WHAT?

Days leading into months, we were looking, friends were looking, police were looking and nothing….No one saw him and no one had any information.

On Mother’s Day, May 12, 2024 I received a text from the police stating a body had been found in the Mississippi River . It was what I had dreaded, feared, and it shattered my heart into a million pieces, Mathew was found, in the water deceased.

Police in my opinion, dropped the ball and his manner of death was ruled undetermined. No evidence of suicide and a possibility of an accident was slim. For me there were too many things that didn't add up. Police stopped sharing any info, and stopped engaging with us because “ there was nothing more to investigate “. Case closed.

There were way too many questions unanswered, and way, way too many lies and misinformation being told by multiple people that gave me a strong feeling there was something more to Matts disappearance and then subsequent death. Nothing made sense.

Mathew is my brother, it was just me and him left, our parents have passed. My instincts kicked in from day one which prompted me to document everything and start digging myself.

A couple of things became huge red flags for me pretty quickly:

His female friend at the time, had a previous boyfriend who had also suddenly drowned. Within a day of Matts disappearance she referenced this within a FB post stating “ I don’t think I can go through this a second time “ Eluding to the fact, Matt might be deceased.

He went on a vacation to the Dominican, on his own months prior to his disappearance. He left his luggage in his hotel room, untouched and only returned with the clothes on his back, not nearly enough if you know about the winters in Canada.

A text message on Mathew’s phone sent on the day of his return says “ Welcome home Rockstar, I’m looking forward to trying the Peruvian Gold”

Two weeks before his disappearance Mathew would make 3 separate bank withdrawals within 48 hours, totally $4500. He was found with $4000 in his front coat pocket.

Mathew wasn't seen on any cameras or anything the day he disappeared. He left his apartment without proper winter clothing in -22 degree weather. He left his phone behind, everything turned on in his apartment, and left his dog Moe alone which is something he never did. EVER.

His female friend did not participate in any searches. She didn’t help with posters and eventually stopped posting about his disappearance on social media. Since his death she has posted morbid Tiktok videos and comments almost alluding to guilt, tormenting me and my family.

This Go Fund Me is to help me get the justice every brother or sister deserves. My goal is to obtain the help of a Private Investigator, possibly a lawyer and any other resources to assist in getting Matts case re-investigated and reopened.

If there are any funds remaining, we will consider offering a reward if the other sources aren’t able to move this case forward.
