Essie & Charlie Tackis Foundation Fund
Donation protected
We plan to create the "Essie & Charlie Tackis Foundation" to support families in Ohio that lack the financial resources to provide in-home private healthcare for pre-hospice/hospice patients. We are currently experiencing in-home private comfort care for our 93-year-old mother after two attempts at independent living and assisted living facilities in Florida. These facilities are selling clients a bill of goods, and they simply cannot deliver on all their promises, especially at prices exceeding $6,000.00 per month or more.
Our mother, while in assisted living, began to suffer from "Sundowner Syndrome." Sundowners syndrome, or sundowning, refers to a phenomenon where individuals with dementia, particularly Alzheimer's disease, experience increased confusion, agitation, and mood swings during the late afternoon and evening. Fortunately, our mother did not have dementia; however, during the evening, her stress levels skyrocketed due to the fact she was alone and scared in anticipation of a fall or an emergency medical condition that would lead to her incapacity. Her biggest fear was the potential for another minor stroke. Her anxiety compounded other medical conditions with nerve pain in her face and high blood pressure.
Now that we have her at home, even though she is in a combination of private and Hospice care, her facial nerve pain is gone, and her blood pressure is that of a 30-year-old. Living and transitioning to the afterlife at home is what every needing patient and family needs and deserves. We plan to aid those in need.
