Essential Groceries for Families in Medellín

Hello all,
We've created these pages in order to raise money for food and essentials for families in Medellín, where we reside, struggling to put food on the table during the quarantine period.
Everyone has been affected by the coronavirus emergency, and Colombia is no different. With roughly 60 percent of the population earning less than minimum wage and working informally , the crisis is not only a medical one but also one of basic sustenance.
There is a strict mandatory quarantine here; only one member of each household is allowed to go out and purchase food and/or medicine two days per week. As a result, families with no savings and no options to work during quarantine are going hungry.
Sadly, news emerged last week of neighborhoods nearby where we live where many households are hanging red rags from their windows – a plea for help by those who do not have food or basic hygiene products, and have not received help from the government. Since then, the same red rags have appeared in other deprived neighborhoods all across Medellín and other cities in Colombia.
Our plan is to raise as much funds as we possibly can to buy and deliver food locally to those who are most in need. We are currently in touch with local community leaders and foundations who are helping us identify the best way of doing this.
100% of the money raised will be spent on essentials, as we will cover all organizational and/or administrative costs. We’ll also be documenting our aid efforts so every one of our donors gets a direct look at the lives they are helping.
