So here goes.....
I've bit the bullet to ask for help. Embarrassing yes but unfortunately we just haven't got the money to get the treatment required for our son right now.
What treatment you may ask?
Both of my sons have had flat heads during early months of there lives. Which there is evidence suggesting its connected to vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy, which I had.
Having a 10 year old that had starband treatment 10 years ago I was aware of what was required to prevent this from happening. Against all NHS advice I used head shaping pillows to prevent flat head syndrome and put Ernie on his side to sleep. Until around 5 month old it seemed to work.
The last couple of weeks myself and Ernies dad notices his head pertruding at the sides and his head flatness not being so bad. For peace of mind we decided to make an appointment at the steeper clinic in Leeds where Ernies older brother had the starband treatment. Much to my shock Ernie has actually got severe pertruding of the sides of his skull but lovely asymmetry for the shape which means his skull could just stay the shape it is and just grow out and bigger.
A lot of people believe that it's OK for babies heads to be this shape as it's recommended that babies are on their backs to sleep. Still 10 years down the line the NHS refuse to fund the helmet therapy but will happily cut open a child skull if it fuses incorrectly. Well if I can get something done to prevent this I will. You would too right?
There's conflicting opinions on weather it can affect the brain growth.
So here I am swollowing my pride and asking for help!
Please don't feel obliged to help if anything it's raising awareness for the plagiocephaly and braciocephaly (flat head syndrome)
Many thanks
