We're going to be dads!
Hi everyone! We are Erik and Adam McEwen! We met nearly 4 years ago, and have been married for nearly 2 years! Erik is a hairstylist and educator with his own salon, and Adam is a photographer and songwriter. The balance of Erik's strong willed, hard working, and heart of gold nature, paired with Adam's fun-loving, creative, and kid at heart personality makes us feel like we'll be fantastic dads!
We have wanted to grow our family for years, and we started taking the necessary steps to do that about 6 months ago. Initially we began with the adoption process in mind, but that eventually turned to surrogacy about 4 months ago. Erik's sister-in-law Corrin offered to be our surrogate, and that was a dream come true. For us, the idea of surrogacy never seemed like it could be a reality, due to the amount of compensation needed when dealing with an agency. Luckily, Corrin is an angel and offered to be our surrogate for no compensation!
The generosity of our surrogate, and our egg donor (who also helped us for no compensation) allowed us to choose the surrogacy path, but there's still a massive amount of money left for all other expenses (nearly $60,000!). That's why we decided to start a Go Fund Me. It's so awkward to talk about money, but a child is worth more than anything in the world, and we're sure a lot of parents will agree with us on that! The money donated will help us with the large upfront costs from surrogacy.
