Liebe Freundinnen und Freunde, liebe Kunst- und Kulturbegeisterte, liebe Wegbegleiter,

das Atelier am Schliersee ist weit mehr als nur ein Raum mit vier Wänden. Seit über 25 Jahren ist es ein lebendiger, pulsierender Kulturort im Schlierseer Tal. Ein Ort, den unsere Mutter, die Künstlerin Cornelia Heinzel Lichtwark, Anfang der 2000er Jahre nach ihrer Rückkehr aus Frankreich mit unendlich viel Leidenschaft, Hingabe und Mut von Null auf aufgebaut hat.

Wer dieses Atelier betritt, spürt sofort Cornelias kreative Seele. Als anerkanntes Mitglied der Künstlersozialkasse (KSK) hat sie ihr ganzes Leben der Kunst gewidmet. Ihre Gabe und ihr Savoir-faire sind so vielfältig wie beeindruckend: von witzigen, poetischen Illustrationen über tiefgründige Porträts und ausdrucksstarke Wurzelbilder auf Leinwand bis hin zu unglaublich detaillierten, feinsinnigen Kleinplastiken. Cornelia schafft Kunst, die verbindet, verzaubert und begeistert.

Doch sie hat diesen Ort nie nur für sich genutzt. Mit ihrer zutiefst großzügigen Art hat sie das Atelier stets geöffnet und das Kulturgeschehen der Region reich beschenkt. Sie hat unterrichtet, Kolleginnen und Kollegen für gemeinsame Ausstellungen und Lesungen eingeladen und einen Raum für lebendige Vernissagen, Workshops und Kunstmärkte geschaffen.

Wie so viele Frauen ihrer Generation hat Cornelia einen großen Teil ihres Lebens der unbezahlten Care-Arbeit gewidmet. Sie hat uns, ihre Kinder Stephanie, Ben und Myriam, sowie unsere Cousine Marie mit grenzenloser Liebe durch wichtige Jahre in Südfrankreich begleitet. Nach ihrer Rückkehr nach Bayern hat sie sich immer wieder tapfer und mit bewundernswerter Resilienz durchgeschlagen.

Was sie in den letzten Jahren gemeistert hat, darunter schwere Krebsdiagnosen, Long Covid und zwei Hüftoperationen, ist eine unglaubliche Lebensleistung. Ihre Kunst und ihr Atelier waren dabei stets ihr Lebenselixier und ihr wichtigster Ankerpunkt.

Warum wir heute eure Solidarität brauchen:

Heute steht dieser wunderbare Ort vor dem Aus. Cornelias kleine Rente von 850 Euro im Monat reicht trotz aller Bescheidenheit und gelegentlicher Kunstwerkverkäufe bei Weitem nicht aus, um die Fixkosten zu decken. Um das Atelier und die darüberliegende Wohnung, in der sie seit 20 Jahren lebt, zu halten, fehlt jeden Monat eine Lücke von 500 Euro.

Unser konkretes Ziel für diese Solidaritätsaktion ist es, Cornelias Miete für die kommenden 5 Jahre abzusichern. Dafür benötigen wir eine Gesamtsumme von 30.000 Euro (500 Euro × 12 Monate × 5 Jahre). Die Situation ist akut: Da die Wohnung über eine Treppe direkt mit dem Gewerberaum des Ateliers verbunden ist, kann der Vermieter die Räume nicht separat vermieten. Wenn das Geld nicht mehr reicht, droht Cornelia nicht nur der Verlust ihres Arbeitsplatzes und ihres Lebenswerks, sondern auch der Verlust ihres Zuhauses.

Jetzt ist es an der Zeit, ihr etwas davon zurückzugeben, in voller Würde und tiefer Dankbarkeit für alles, was sie geschaffen hat.Wie ihr helfen könnt: Jeder Beitrag, ob klein oder groß, fließt zu 100 % in die Absicherung der monatlichen Ateliermiete für die kommenden fünf Jahre.

Dear friends, dear art and culture lovers,

The Atelier am Schliersee is so much more than just a room with four walls. For more than 25 years, it has been a vibrant, living cultural space in the Schliersee valley. A place that our mother, the artist Cornelia Heinzel Lichtwark, built from the ground up in the early 2000s after returning from France — with boundless passion, dedication and courage.

Anyone who enters this studio immediately feels Cornelia’s creative soul. As a recognised member of the German Artists’ Social Insurance Fund (KSK), she has devoted her entire life to art. Her talent and savoir-faire are as diverse as they are impressive: from witty, poetic illustrations and profound portraits to expressive root paintings on canvas and incredibly detailed, delicate small sculptures. Cornelia creates art that connects, enchants and inspires.

But she has never used this place only for herself. With her deeply generous spirit, she has always opened the studio to others and enriched the cultural life of the region. She has taught, invited fellow artists to take part in joint exhibitions and readings, and created a space for lively vernissages, workshops and art markets.

Like so many women of her generation, Cornelia devoted a large part of her life to unpaid care work. She raised and supported us, her children Stephanie, Ben and Myriam, as well as our cousin Marie, with boundless love through important years in the south of France. After returning to Bavaria, she repeatedly found the strength to carry on through difficult times, with remarkable courage and resilience.

What she has overcome in recent years — including serious cancer diagnoses, Long Covid and two hip replacement surgeries — is an extraordinary testament to her strength. Throughout it all, her art and her studio have remained her lifeline and her most important anchor.

Why we need your solidarity today

Today, this wonderful place is at risk of being lost.

Despite living very modestly and occasionally selling her artwork, Cornelia’s small pension of €850 per month is nowhere near enough to cover the fixed costs. In order to keep the studio and the apartment above it, where she has lived for the past 20 years, there is a shortfall of €500 every month.

Our concrete goal with this solidarity campaign is to secure Cornelia’s rent for the next five years. To do so, we need a total of €30,000 (€500 × 12 months × 5 years).

The situation is urgent: because the apartment is directly connected by a staircase to the studio’s commercial space, the landlord cannot rent the two spaces separately. If the money runs out, Cornelia risks losing not only her workplace and the life’s work she has built there, but also her home.

We want — and need — to prevent this from happening.

For decades, Cornelia has given culture, joy and a sense of community to others. Now it is time to give something back to her — with dignity, and with deep gratitude for everything she has created.
