Ancient Song Doula Service mission has always been to uplift the voices of communities of color and now more than ever Black pregnant people's lives are at stake. African-American pregnant people are 3-4 times more likely to die of a childbirth-related complication and in NYC 8-12 times more likely to die of a childbirth-related complication or suffer a near miss.
During these times of uncertainty, we must continue to center the voices of the community in real and tangible ways because people want to be Seen, Heard, and Loved. They want to know that they can parent their children in a world free from harm and unprovoked violence. A world that looks a healthcare and other aspects of life from a culturally humble perspective. Understanding that you might not understand but there is a collective willingness to do more and be more in this world as a community of humans having a collective experience.
We do this by creating campaigns like Listen to Me Now to amplify the voices of the patient, provider, and community during COVID-19 to center accountability, inform legislative policy and center the narratives of Black birthing people. By pivoting to a virtual platform we were able to provide critical support to not just the NYC community but nationally. Training over 250 people nationwide to provide virtual doula support and 50 Nurses to provide continuity of care in spaces where labor support was limited. We can't stop now!
Assist us in continuing to provide continuity of care during this pandemic that affects Black people disproportionately in healthcare and all its intersections. Help us to continue to uplift racial justice and equity by donating. Your funds will be used to:
- Offset the cost of full-spectrum doula care to someone who can not afford care.
- Provide free Full Spectrum Doula Training to the community in NYC & beyond.
- Continue to offer weekly groceries to communities in need.
- Provide free/low-cost educational classes and resources to our growing community.
- Provide general operating funds to continue to reach the community in sustainable ways.
- Provide diapers, formula, and other necessities to families in need.
