Exercise for Epilepsy: Empower Group Fitness
Tax deductible
Hi, my name is Emma Steinl. I am a senior continuing my IB CAS project at Page High School. For the second and final year, I am hosting a fundraiser for the Epilepsy Alliance of North Carolina.
In 2022, I was diagnosed with generalized epilepsy. Having epilepsy is challenging and complicated. I have experienced grand mal seizures when I’m stressed, lack sleep, or am not properly medicated. These seizures have occurred at family events and school, which can be difficult for both me and those around me.
Finding the right combination of medications has taken time and patience, but I’m relieved to say we’ve managed to find a solution that works for me. I was even able to get my driver’s license back in August, which has made me feel more like a typical teenager with autonomy. It’s an exciting milestone!
The seizure medications are crucial in controlling my episodes. As long as I take my medications, manage my stress levels, and ensure I get adequate sleep, I can better manage my seizures.
I want other kids and adults in North Carolina to have access to the information and medications needed to control their seizures as well. Prescription anti-convulsants are essential for managing epilepsy, and everyone who needs them should have access, regardless of family income or insurance status.
Please consider contributing to the NC Epilepsy Alliance Medication Fund or attending the event so we can help others manage their epilepsy. Everyone deserves to live a healthy life!
