Help mee aan de bouw van een duurzame ontmoetingsruimte in Borneo

In de zomer van 2025 ga ik met CAUKIN Studio naar Kalimantan, het Indonesische deel van Borneo, om samen met een lokaal team en architectuurstudenten een Aula (een multifunctionele hal) te ontwerpen en te bouwen voor de organisatie Friends of Nature, People and Forest (FNPF).

Kalimantan staat bekend om zijn indrukwekkende natuur, nationale parken en bijzondere dieren zoals de orang-oetan. Maar het is ook een gebied waar veel natuur verloren gaat door illegale houtkap en de uitbreiding van palmolieplantages. FNPF zet zich actief in om dat tegen te gaan door natuurbehoud te combineren met educatie en duurzaam toerisme.

Wat gaan we doen

We bouwen een multifunctionele ruimte op het terrein van FNPF in Jerumbun. Deze Aula zal gebruikt worden voor workshops en activiteiten voor zowel de lokale bevolking als internationale vrijwilligers. Het wordt een plek waar mensen samenkomen om te leren over en bij te dragen aan natuurbehoud.

Bijzonder aan dit project

We gebruiken materialen uit de omgeving en werken samen met vakmensen uit de lokale gemeenschap. Het project draait om samenwerking met en voor de gemeenschap. Bovendien moet het gebouw volledig zelfvoorzienend zijn, want er is geen elektriciteitsnet of stromend water. Verder houden we rekening met het tropische klimaat, vocht en duurzame energie.

Waarom ik jouw hulp nodig heb

Om deel te kunnen nemen aan dit project, wil ik geld inzamelen voor onder andere materiaalkosten, gereedschap en bouwwerkzaamheden. Jouw donatie, groot of klein, helpt direct mee aan de realisatie van dit duurzame gebouw op een plek waar het hard nodig is.

Help build a sustainable meeting space in Borneo

In the summer of 2025, I will join CAUKIN Studio in Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of Borneo, to design and build an Aula (a multifunctional hall) together with a local team and architecture students for the organisation Friends of Nature, People and Forest (FNPF).

Kalimantan is known for its stunning nature, national parks, and unique wildlife such as the orangutan. But it’s also a region where large areas of forest are being lost due to illegal logging and the expansion of palm oil plantations. FNPF actively works to counter this by combining conservation with education and sustainable tourism.

What we’ll be doing

We’ll build a multifunctional space on FNPF’s site in Jerumbun. This Aula will be used for workshops and activities for both the local community and international volunteers. It will be a place for people to come together, learn about conservation, and take part in protecting the environment.

What makes this project special

We’ll use locally sourced materials and work with skilled craftspeople from the local community. The project is rooted in collaboration with and for the people who live there. The building also needs to be fully self-sufficient, as there’s no access to mains electricity or running water. On top of that, we’ll consider the tropical climate, humidity, and the use of sustainable energy.

Why I need your help

To take part in this project, I’m raising money to help cover material costs, tools and construction operations. Any donation, big or small, will directly support the construction of this sustainable building in a place where it’s truly needed.
