Help Us Care for Thomas Earl Hobson — A Father, Provider, and Faithful Servant
Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted souls,
My name is Terri Carroll, and I’m writing from a place of deep love and urgent need on behalf of my father, Thomas Earl Hobson.
Daddy started working at just 9 years old, picking cotton in the Jim Crow South of Tennessee. He lived through the harshest parts of segregation, then moved to Chicago in the early 1960s to build a better life. He worked hard—sometimes juggling three jobs—and spent years at the Bud Plant in Gary, Indiana, providing a stable home for his family. He was a man of principle, a devoted husband, and a faithful soul-winner who ministered to many throughout his life.
He was married to my mother, Erma Hobson, for 58 beautiful years. When she passed away in January 2025, something in Daddy broke. The heartbreak and overwhelm soon manifested into serious health complications, and he is now bed-bound and in hospice care.
Although insurance covers supplies and equipment, his daily hospice care costs $200 per day out of pocket. This amount is essential to keep him in a clean, safe, and loving environment with the 24-hour care and support he needs to transition peacefully—just as he deserves after a lifetime of dedication to his family and to others.
We are seeking to raise $20,000, which will help cover at least three months of his care while we make arrangements to sell the family home.
While doctors have given Daddy only a short time left to live, he is still here with us—and only God knows how long that will be. As long as the Lord allows Daddy to remain, we must cover this $200 daily cost to ensure he continues to receive the care he needs. We are working hard to sell the family home to provide for his long-term care, but while that process unfolds, we’re asking for help. The $20,000 we hope to raise will carry us through the next few months and give us time to make more permanent arrangements. Your generosity means more than we can say.
My parents worked hard their entire lives, but like many elders, they didn’t have financial assets to leave behind that could cover these costs. We, as a family, are doing everything in our power—while facing our own challenges—to provide Daddy with the dignity, comfort, and peace he deserves. That’s why we are turning to our community and extended family of love and faith for help.
This care has not only kept Daddy physically stable—it has been a deep spiritual comfort to him. Having hospice present has brought him peace and reassurance in these final days, allowing him to feel safe, valued, and surrounded by love.
Whether it’s through a donation, a share, or a prayer—we are deeply grateful. Your support gives us the means to meet this sacred moment with the grace it calls for.
With love and thanks,
Terri Hobson-Carroll, Katrina Hobson-Davenport, and the entire Hobson Family
