End Period Poverty – Campaign Summary
End Period Poverty is a global movement aimed at eliminating the lack of access to menstrual products, education, hygiene facilities, and supportive policies for people who menstruate.
What Is Period Poverty?
Period poverty refers to the inability to afford or access:
* Menstrual products (pads, tampons, menstrual cups)
* Clean and safe sanitation facilities
* Accurate menstrual health education
* Medical care for menstrual-related conditions
It disproportionately affects low-income communities, students, people experiencing homelessness, and those in developing regions.
Campaign Goals
1. Free Access to Menstrual Products
Advocate for free period products in schools and less privileged communities.
2. Policy Change
Push for the removal of the “tampon tax” and support legislation for menstrual equity (for example, policies introduced in countries like Scotland, which became the first country to make period products free nationwide).
3. Education & Awareness
Break stigma around menstruation through workshops, school programs, and public discussions.
4. Improved Sanitation Access
Ensure access to clean water, toilets, and disposal facilities—particularly in underserved communities.
