We're a campaign to end Partner Income Testing. This is the rule that takes away your Centrelink income, or reduces it, if you have a partner.
It needs to end. That's what our campaign is for.
The rule belongs in the 1950's - when a breadwinner funded the whole household and the wife kept home.
It is ableist - taking away disabled people's only chance at financial autonomy.
It is a significant risk factor for DV - but left in place by the government, despite their purported aims to eliminate this scourge.
It takes away your money even if you don't have access to your partner's income - because it assumes someday, maybe, just maybe, you could, even if this forces you into destitution.
It strains or even destroys relationships - let's face it: this isn't natural for most couples.
A single income does not work in this day and age - if it doesn't work for middle class people, why is it forced on the poorest among us?
It coerces dependency - could there be anything more miserable?
Telling your stories will enable us to help end this oppressive rule. And a website is the heart of our campaign.
We tried creating a website ourselves using free tools.
We failed.
We may be able to recruit volunteers in the future to do this for us, but we want to get this campaign started as soon as possible.
That's why we're soliciting donations for a website. We received a quote of $1200-$1500.
Basically, you would be building this website yourselves with your donations.
This campaign doesn't happen unless we make it happen. This website is its key. Donate today and you will see this campaign spring into action.
Can't afford it? No problem. Please consider sharing this or leaving a supportive comment.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
