Encinitas4Equality Needs a Home

Hello friends and allies -

Eleven weeks ago we held our first protest at The Cardiff Kook in response to the murder of George Floyd and to honor all the lives of our Black communities taken by police brutality. We didn’t know then, but those protests would become the foundation of our community coming together to demand justice and equality, not just for George Floyd, but for every Black individual in our country and beyond. Since then, we have had the honor of leading alongside incredible community activists in the fight to end racial discrimination, systemic oppression, and inequities which fuel the two.

We are excited to announce a new phase for Encinitas4Equality! We are now a non-profit organization!  Our 501c3 status is pending with the IRS and tax deductions will be back dated to July 2020.  Throughout these months of building, some of you have generously reached out with offers of financial support which we’ve never before been able to accept. Now we can!

And we have more exciting news. A local funder here in Encinitas has offered us a dollar-for-dollar matching grant of up to $10,000 to enable us to secure a physical space for our community organizing and to support programs that build our movement and advance our mission. From now until September 15th, every dollar you give to Encinitas4Equality through this GoFundMe campaign will be doubled!
We envision a space where our community can safely come together for small workshops. A space where we can offer free tutoring sessions to underserved youth providing access to technology. A space where we can invite discussion and dialogue to further our movement. And we already have a location! Lauren Duke, owner of the space that currently houses Gather Community Center and an important early supporter of Encinitas4Equality has offered our group a chance to lease the space at an incredibly generous rate. Lauren strongly believes in our mission and aligns through our Yoga Initiative.

We have an experienced fundraising team committed to raising the funds to achieve our 2020/2021 goals of:
offering four $5,000 College scholarships to BIPOC youth
offering start up funds for BIPOC business owners looking to open a business in Encinitas
offering yoga teacher training scholarships to BIPOC yogis
funding a surf and yoga program for underserved
supporting ballot measures and legislation that are aligned with our mission
funding counseling for domestic violence survivors at the CRC
offering free tutoring services to underserved youth needing support during COVID-19 school closures
offering rental assistance to BIPOC communities during COVID-19
Much more

We recognize we have lofty goals but we also recognize systemic change requires a lot of work and support. Our ask in this fundraiser is for your support in creating a home for Encinitas4Equality, which will ultimately be a home for our community of activists, leaders, BIPOC neighbors to come together and do the justice work necessary. And now you have the chance to double the impact of your dollars.

All funds raised through this gofundme campaign will go directly to the cost of our lease, outfitting our new home and/or one of the critical programs outlined above.

Please join us in advancing a vision for equality and justice in Encinitas, our region and our country. Please support Encinitas4Equality.
