As many of you know our kids spent 154 days in the NICU. Since leaving the NICU we have begun volunteering in the University of Minnesota Masonic NICU. We absolutely love giving back to the place that gave us so much. We hear so many heartbreaking stories every time we volunteer and feel privileged that parents are comfortable enough to share with us. Recently we had a baby pass away after over a year in the hospital. We had gotten to know this family very well. Last night a parent shared with us their daughter did not have much longer. We want to do SOMETHING to bring a bright spot into the day of these parents. 

        This year we would like to begin a book drive. Usborne matches all donations by 50%, meaning I will be able to purchase $1500 in books for the babies in the NICU if we hit our goal. These books will be gifts for the siblings as well as babies in the NICU. Parents spend so many hours in the hospital holding their children and often times bringing a book to read to them is the last thing on their mind. If we can provide books to these parents they can read to their children as they are being held. Studies have shown that the sooner you read to them the better their language development is.
