EMPOWERink - Hate will never win!

As a pioneering organization, EMPOWERink stands as the first of its kind in Canada. Our vision is to bridge the gap between breast cancer survivors, previvors, and thrivers, and skilled tattoo artists who specialize in creating artistic mastectomy tattoos. This artistic collaboration allows these remarkable women and men to regain control over their bodies, often for the first time since their mastectomy surgeries.

As the founder, a proud Jew, I work hard for months to raise funds, plan and implement these EMPOWERink days. My first event of the year was to take place at a tattoo shop in Toronto. Women apply from all over North America and pay for their own flights and hotels to come to the event. This is the first time since their diagnosis that they are fully in control of their bodies.

The ladies were so excited for this event which was to take place on May 19th. 5 days before the event was to take place, I got a call from the tattoo shop. They told me that they are getting backlash from their collaboration with me because I am a proud Jew. I then asked them if that meant they are cancelling the event and without any hesitation they said yes.

I had to reach out to these inspiring breast cancer survivors 4 days before they were to receive their new beginnings to tell them the tattoo shop cancelled the event because I am Jewish. They were disgusted with the shop and were so amazingly supportive although they were all heartbroken.

These ladies are now out money because it was too late to cancel their flights and hotels. I had also spent money on planning the event and I was not able to recoup any of the funds.

These breast cancer survivors are not Jewish. They have nothing to do with what is going on in the world right now. They were just coming to Toronto for this event to cover their mastectomy scars with beautiful art.

I vow to invite all of these ladies back to receive their mastectomy tattoos. I will find a shop that respects who I am.
