Growing4ward, Inc. conducts an annual trip to Washington, DC for the Congressional Black Caucus-Annual Legislative Conference (CBC-ALC) and our DARE TO LEAD Conference (DTL). The initiative brings male high school upperclassmen of the African Diaspora to the nation’s capital for a weekend of scholarship, exposure, mentoring, team building, and thought-provoking experiences. During the first leg of this Educational Excursion, the young men will attend the 2024 CBC-ALC. There, they will have an opportunity to get a first-hand look at the roles men and women of African descent play in the decision-making process of our government, attend engaging workshops covering issues impacting African-Americans and the global Black community, as well as network with leaders, legislators, influencers, and other concerned citizens.
During the second part of our excursion, the students will attend the DTL Conference. This initiative is a leadership experience where participating HS upperclassmen males will work with their DC and MD counterparts to engage in group activities, workshops, conduct presentations, and tour the campus of Howard University. This experience will offer networking opportunities, first hand exposure to higher education, and an opportunity to build productive relationships with like-minded individuals.
The final portion of the weekend will take place throughout the nation’s capital and Baltimore, MD. Our scholars will tour attractions such as the National Mall, National Museum of African-American History, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, and the National Great Blacks in Wax Museum. These entities depict and pay homage to the illustrious history of Black people in America, America, and the peculiar relationship between the two.
