Grounds is more than just a café. Rooted in the mission of Her Migrant Hub to center the voices of migrant women, it is a safe space for connection, creativity, and community. A hub for Bronx neighbors, Fordham students and educators, and migrant activists, the café is where stories are shared and coffee is the ritual that brings people together. It's about finding common grounds.
Our grand opening is today - Wednesday, 9/3, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., and we’re reaching out today with some specific needs to help us cross the finish line. If you're able, please consider donating toward one of the following items to help us furnish and finish our space beautifully and intentionally.
Your Gift Could Help Fund:
Outdoor café tables & chairs (2 sets, bistro-style): $350
Barstools (set of 4, dark wood): $240
Floating wood shelves (set of 3): $120
Small café sound system (portable PA + speakers): $300
Wi-fi set up and monthly fees (for 6 months): $500.
Plumbing/water line for coffee equipment: $360.
Decorative pillows (indoor/outdoor): $75
Specialty coffee beans (local roasters): $100/months (for 6 months).
Any dollar counts, as it will help us support the café while building income.
Your donation doesn’t just help us purchase these essentials — it also helps us provide stipends to the migrant women who will be running and shaping the café, allowing them to earn while they train, lead, and grow.
What your support funds:
• Train 12 migrant women as baristas and 2–4 women as managers.
• Support a mentorship and tutoring program linking Fordham students with local families
• Create a Story Wall to honor migration journeys
• Complete the café’s interior design
• Provide stipends for women and volunteers as the café builds income
