As a disabled veteran, I’ve discovered firsthand how woodworking can be a powerful source of healing and motivation. When I’m in my shop, working with my hands and focusing on creating something new, it helps me escape the stress and challenges that come with daily life. This experience inspired me to share the therapeutic benefits of woodworking with other veterans who may be struggling to find purpose or connection.

I’m working to start a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering disabled veterans through woodworking. The program will offer classes, open workshop hours, and group projects, giving veterans a welcoming space to learn new skills, build camaraderie, and strengthen community ties. My hope is that by participating, veterans will find the motivation to get up, get out, and engage with others—while also having the opportunity to create and possibly earn a little income from their work.

With a shop and tools already in place, my first step is to reach out to local veterans, beginning with the Texas Veterans Commission. The funds raised will go directly toward the legal costs of establishing the non-profit, so we can start making a difference as soon as possible.
