Hi, my name is Maurits Servaas, living in Uganda for the last 15 years. I like to fundraise for SAINT KISORO, a small Community Based Organisation. SAINT is the acronym of Sexual Abuse Is Not Tolerated.

SAINT combats Sexual Abuse, Gender-Based Violence, and Substance Abuse Among Girls in Kisoro District. Kisoro District faces high rates of sexual abuse, gender-based violence, and drug/alcohol abuse, severely impacting girls’ education, health, and wellbeing. Out-of-school girls are especially vulnerable, while communities often lack awareness and systems to prevent abuse.

To reduce sexual abuse, gender-based violence, and substance abuse among girls in Kisoro District SAINT empowers them with self-defense skills, life skills, vocational training, and fostering community awareness and protective systems.

How? SAINT is doing community mobilization & sensitization campaigns; provides self-defense training for girls; offers counselling and psychosocial support to survivors and provides vocational skills training for highly vulnerable girls: soap making, making reusable sanitary pads, tailoring and hairdressing.

The self-defense / awareness training for girls takes 2 hours a day, for one week. The total costs for such a week training are 100 Euro, covering the cost of the trainer, venue, water and materials. Prior to the training SAINT will organize a community awaress meeting.

For the most vulnerable, out-of-school girls, we offer additional vocational and life-skills training of a few days and provide them a start-up kit.
