Hi, I’m Vannessa, an Occupational Therapy graduate passionate about global health. I’ve been given an incredible opportunity to volunteer with African Vision Malawi, a charity dedicated to empowering communities and orphans through sustainable health, education, and developmental initiatives for self-sufficiency.
From September, I’ll be spending six months in Malawi, working closely with educators, medical and therapy staff, and communities in the country’s most rural and underserved areas. Many people in the communities have little to no access to healthcare or early developmental support, and that’s where Occupational Therapy can make a huge difference.
During my time, I’ll be:
- Providing community outreach to promote health education.
- Conducting OT assessments, advice, interventions and referrals
- Delivering workshops and training to mothers and caregivers on how to promote independence and support their children’s needs
- Working with local educators to create inclusive learning environments for children with additional needs
- Mentoring local volunteers to build sustainable, long-term impact
and so much more.
This work is entirely voluntary, and to make it happen, I need your help.
Your donation will go directly towards:
- Flights, accommodation, vaccinations and insurance
- Basic living costs while volunteering
- Therapy and educational materials for families, orphans, hospitals and individuals
- Resources to leave behind for sustainable support
Every donation, big or small, brings me one step closer to making this happen—and brings essential services to a community that truly needs them. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this page with others who might be able to support.
Thank you so much for helping me be part of something meaningful. Let’s create change, one community at a time.
