Dear family, friends, and supporters,
This July, I am embarking on a transformative expedition to Zambia and Botswana. This journey is not merely a trek; it is a commitment to cultural immersion, personal resilience, and sustainable community development. I am seeking your support to raise £3,695 to fund this project and provide direct aid to rural communities.
The Heart of the Project
My journey began last year when I was introduced to True Adventure. I was immediately drawn to their mission in rural Zambia, specifically their focus on empowering young women. My work will be centred around two vital pillars:
* Eradicating Period Poverty: I am deeply passionate about the belief that menstrual hygiene is a fundamental right, not a luxury. I will be volunteering at the Climate Resilience Centre, participating in a workshop to produce reusable sanitary pads. These will be distributed to students at neighbouring schools, ensuring that no girl has to miss out on her education due to a lack of basic health products.
* Sustainable Infrastructure: Working with The School Club Zambia, I will help construct a fruit and nut orchard. This initiative provides a dual benefit: creating a hands-on organic farming environment for students and establishing a long-term source of sustainable food and income for the community.
Building Resilience and Connection
This expedition will push me far beyond my comfort zone. By living without the luxuries of running water and modern amenities, I will gain a profound appreciation for the challenges faced by the people of the Sinazongwe area.
Beyond the labour-intensive projects, I will lead sports tournaments and arts-and-crafts sessions for local children. These moments of connection allow for a genuine exchange of culture, as I learn from the traditions of the Chi Tonga people while fostering teamwork and leadership through play.
How You Can Help
Your contribution, no matter the size, is an investment in a more equitable future. You are not just supporting my personal growth; you are providing dignity to young girls and sustainable resources to an entire community.
Trek
At the end of the three week expedition, I will have the incredible oppotunity to go on a three-day trek through Livingstone, as well as a safari along the Zambia-Botswana border.
100% of any funds raised above the target will be used to purchase much-needed equipment and materials for the sustainable production of more sanitary products.
Thank you for standing with me as I work to make a meaningful, lasting impact.
With much thanks and gratitude,
Millie
