Who We Are

My name is Sharsyeá (Shay) Abram, and I’m the founder of W.E. Girls Inc., a grassroots nonprofit based in Oakland, California. Our mission is to empower young girls of color—especially those facing systemic barriers—through mentorship, STEM education, leadership development, and global connection.

With the support of Evergreen Community Development Corporation, we’re expanding our work both locally and globally—and we need your support.

Why This Matters

I was raised without my mother and spent much of my youth searching for belonging, purpose, and identity. It was education and travel that opened my world. Through study abroad and serving in the Peace Corps in Ghana, I discovered healing, leadership, and my deep connection to legacy.

I created W.E. Girls Inc. to give young women those same opportunities—to reimagine what’s possible, explore their heritage, and rise into their power.

Our Goal: $75,000

We are raising funds for two bold initiatives:

1. Build Community Empowerment Centers in Oakland & Ghana – $30,000

These spaces will offer:

• After-school programming

• STEM and creative arts workshops

• Mentorship, leadership training, and healing circles

• Safe spaces for community connection and growth

2. Send 20 Girls on a Cultural Exchange Journey to Ghana – $45,000

We’re taking 20 girls from Oakland to Ghana for a life-changing experience rooted in identity, empowerment, and global leadership.

At $2,250 per girl, this includes flights, accommodations, meals, cultural activities, and immersive leadership workshops.
