Backed by our humor research at the UCLA Semel Neuropsychiatric Institute and our teen laughter workshops in Massachusetts and California which indicates the. mental and emotional benefits of laughter for youth.
our Credibility:
We have helped teens with mental health issues with our workshops in California, Massachusetts, and soon in the New England area. Many of these teens who we have helped in mental health clinics have addiction problems, anger and rage issues, family troubles, interpersonal problems, suicide ideation and are clinically depressed.
Why the Need to Expand:
As of 2024, there are over 2,460 residential mental health treatment facilities many of which serve adolescents. An estimated 120,000–200,000 young people reside in various behavioral, group home, or boot camp facilities, with over 50,000 placed privately by parents. Several of these places offer yoga workshops, equine therapy, wilderness therapy. lHowever, laughter therapy is not usually included in the curriculum.
Our Purpose:
To use our knowledge and expertise thus far to expand to more camps, residential treatment centers and clinics to give troubled youth a chance to gain confidence, improve their relationships, address issues in a more positive way, and help them to forget about being a “patient” for a while.
To provide them with, a safe space and the tools to discover their comic voice amidst lł while creating life long positive memories. Give them hope and freedom to have fun and laugh out loud with confidence and a supportive environment.
How:
Under the supervision of Rx Laughter, a mental health clinician and a compassionate and skilled comic performer, they will learn to craft a short stand up act about their life issues to see their problem in a more hopeful way. They will learn how to do this while in recovery in behavioral health treatment care for residential full time, partial hospitalization, and/or outpatient care. .
Nurture their passion to pursue a career in comedy with the help of successful comedy artists. The teens, a diverse small group, will craft a short stand-up comedy act in their unique voices in this and leave with a beginning “portfolio” of their work and a new and long term support system to count on when they return home.
We Need Your Help:
We need to develop a specially- designed curriculum for their age group, connect with treatment centers, recruit clinical, administrative and performance staff, recruit comic talent, and select the participants under the clinical guidance of the treatment center. We teach these workshops geared toward each teen at the centers for the various behavioral health centers, retreats behav health boarding schools, and camps
