Empower Neurodivergent Artists And Crafters
A first goal for our group will be to become an official nonprofit. This would allow us to get donations of craft supplies from businesses, so we could make and sell more crafts. It would even allow us to dream of bigger and better things! We need $275 to file as a nonprofit.
We are a newly forming group giving neurodivergent individuals the opportunity to create arts and crafts and sell them at craft fairs.
The unemployment rate for neurodivergent adults is 30 to 40%. Not only is this eight times higher than the rate for neurotypical adults, but it is three times higher than the rate for disabled people in general. Neurodivergent people who do work often still struggle to work full-time hours.
Kaleidoscope Artist and Creator Collective is in the very beginning stage of its creation. The plan is to invite neurodivergent artists and crafters of all ability levels to sell their products.
The group will offer monthly gatherings where participants can learn a new craft or work on their own projects. We will then offer our crafts for sale at craft fairs and markets.
Participation is completely free, including the supplies to create projects. Financial need often creates a barrier for neurodivergent people to be able to do arts and crafts or participate in craft fairs. We remove that barrier by not charging participants. Although we do ask for a small percentage of anything they earn from their sales (about 1 to 5% suggested) to cover the cost of booth spaces, this is voluntary and nobody will be turned away.
Goals for this program:
Participants will learn new skills and new avenues to express themselves creatively.
Participants will increase their feelings of belonging and of having a support system.
Participants will have the opportunity to earn money, which will increase their independence.
