My name is Yvonne Byrd. I have three sons. I am sponsoring this fundraiser to help purchase a vehicle for my oldest and precious son, Marquis, who lives in an area where there is no or very limited public transportation.
Marquis is a kind, caring, loving, and very understanding person. If he gave you a hug, you would never forget it. He has been home since April 4, 2024, after serving twenty years of incarceration in the VA Department of Corrections. He was incarcerated at the age of sixteen. In spite of living his young adulthood years in prison, he has become an amazing, dedicated, and focused individual.
He complies with all the demands imposed upon him by the VA Department of Parole and Probation by reporting regularly in person, making his monthly payments, maintaining, obeying, permitting, and following, just to name a few.
Prior to his release, I anticipated his need for reliable transportation to meet the demands and secure employment for himself. I purchased him a 2000 Dodge Stratus from my neighbor. Unfortunately, the vehicle was not reliable and needed more mechanical work than I could have imagined. He has been paying for the repairs with the money he earned from working with District Donations Hauling Service a few days per week. However, the cost of additional needed major repairs has become unaffordable, and he is diligently seeking employment.
In the past two months, I have noticed his frustration, struggles, and the mental stress caused by his lack of a reliable vehicle, which is all he needs and my reason for sponsoring this fundraiser.
I am not asking for a handout but a hand up to assist my son in his transition back into our society and in being a productive member of society.
Thank you for your consideration and support. Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated.
