More than 30 years ago, as a Chemistry major at Spelman College who loved beauty, I had no idea there were careers where those two worlds could come together.

I had never heard of cosmetic chemistry. I didn’t know product development could be a career. I simply hadn’t been exposed to what was possible.

That experience inspired STEM Beauty Lab—so the next generation of girls doesn’t have to discover those possibilities by chance.

We introduce underrepresented and underserved girls and young women to the exciting world where STEM meets beauty through hands-on learning, mentorship, career exposure, scholarships, and connections with the scientists, innovators, founders, and industry leaders shaping the future of beauty.

Most importantly, we want girls to see themselves as more than consumers of beauty—we want them to see themselves as the scientists, creators, innovators, and leaders who can shape its future.

Because exposure can change the trajectory of a young woman’s life.

When a girl meets a cosmetic chemist, she can begin to picture herself in the lab. When she sees women developing products, leading innovation, and building companies, she begins to imagine what she can become.
