More than 30 years ago, I was an undergraduate Chemistry major at Spelman College with a passion for science and a love for beauty.

What I didn't know was that there were careers where those two passions could come together.

I had never heard of cosmetic chemistry. I didn't know product development was a career. I didn't know women were leading research and innovation through science inside some of the world's most recognizable beauty brands.

Looking back, I often think about how different my journey might have been if I had simply been exposed to those possibilities earlier.

That realization inspired me to create STEM Beauty Lab.

Our mission is to empower underrepresented girls and young women to explore careers where science, technology, engineering, and mathematics intersect with the beauty industry. Through hands-on learning experiences, mentorship, scholarships, career resources, industry partnerships, and programs like Beauty Science Saturdays and Beauty Science Sundays, we introduce students to the scientists, innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders shaping the future of beauty.

We believe that exposure creates opportunity.

When a student meets a cosmetic chemist, she begins to imagine herself in the lab.

When she hears from a product developer, she realizes innovation can be her career.

When she connects with a founder, she begins to believe she can build something of her own.
