Hello, I'm Nambaale Denis, a passionate advocate for women's empowerment in Masaka District, Uganda. Growing up here, I've seen firsthand how adolescent girls and young mothers struggle with unemployment, poverty, inequalities, domestic violence, and menstrual stigma. Many drop out of school, becoming vulnerable and dependent. But with your help, we can start changing that by launching the first phase of a community-based skilling center for tailoring—providing hands-on skills for financial independence.
This campaign funds the initial 3-month phase: establishing the center and beginning training. Future phases will expand on this foundation.
The Problem We're Solving
In Masaka, limited access to vocational training leaves girls and young mothers economically vulnerable. School dropouts often lead to early motherhood, perpetuating cycles of poverty and dependence. This project addresses these gaps by providing practical training and opportunities, starting with setup and initial skills building.
Our Goal
To empower adolescent girls and young mothers through vocational training in tailoring, leading to financial independence—beginning with the establishment and launch in the first 3 months.
Objectives
Establish a fully equipped skilling center in a rented facility.
Begin training 20 participants in tailoring during the initial 3 months (focusing on foundational skills).
Introduce entrepreneurship and business management training in the first 3 months.
Lay the groundwork for an outdoor shop to market products (full setup in later phases).
Create initial employment opportunities for trainees to support sustainable development.
Key Activities
Identify and rent suitable training premises.
Procure sewing machines, fabrics, and other materials.
Recruit qualified tailoring trainers.
Select participants and implement initial training sessions.
Conduct early evaluations and reporting to track progress.
Budget Breakdown
Our goal for this 3-month phase is $2,775. Here's how your donations will be used:
- Rental & Utilities at $300 for facility rent and electricity/water for 3 months;
- Training Equipment & Materials at $2,000 for sewing machines, fabrics, threads, and tools as a one-time purchase for setup;
- Personnel Costs at $300 for trainer salaries and stipends for 3 months;
- Administrative Costs at $100 for office supplies, transport, and monitoring on a prorated basis;
- Other Costs at $75 for miscellaneous expenses, also prorated.
This brings the total to $2,775.
Every dollar counts—$50 could buy fabric for initial training, $100 toward a sewing machine!
Expected Outcomes
The skilling center is established and operational as a community hub.
20 girls and young mothers begin acquiring foundational tailoring skills.
Initial income-generating opportunities emerge through early products.
A strong foundation for long-term empowerment, with the outdoor shop and full training to follow in later phases.
Timeline
We'll start immediately upon funding and complete this phase in 3 months. Weekly or monthly updates will keep you posted on progress, from securing the space to the first training sessions!
Your support launches this vital first step—it's not just funding a center; it's igniting futures. Donate today and share this campaign. Together, we can break the cycle of vulnerability in Masaka. Thank you!
