Empower Ethan Tallman's Pro-Israel Activism at UC Berkeley
My name is Ethan Tallman, and I am a proud Jewish American transfer student and Zionist voice at UC Berkeley.
Throughout my educational journey, I have witnessed and experienced antisemitism. This has strongly motivated me to do everything I can to advocate for Jewish students and the Jewish community. Consequently, my actions improved the curriculum at my middle school and high school to include education about Jewish history and antisemitism, and I had a meeting with the president of the community college that I attended, at which he made several promises to support Jewish students. This included acknowledging Holocaust Remembrance Day, creating ties with the local Hillel and Jewish community center, and creating a Jewish student club as a safe space for Jews on campus.
Since October 7th, the biggest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust, I have been taking a strong stand for the hostages, their families, Israel, and my community.
At UC Berkeley, on the day of October 7th, 2024, the anniversary of the massacre, I spent over 16 hours putting up more than 50 posters about the hostages and giving out more than 300 handouts, all of which I designed, calling to bring the hostages home and raising awareness about the atrocities Hamas committed on October 7th, 2023.
On October 8th, 2024, I coordinated a Pro-Israel counter-protest against the Anti-Israel, pro-terrorism walkout that took place at UC Berkeley. Their walkout honored Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists and called for Israel's destruction, and, therefore, the deaths of millions of Jews and Israelis. Together with my friends, we made our voices heard - that Jewish and Israeli lives matter, the hostages matter, and that they must come home.
Looking forward, I plan to design and put up more posters around the UC Berkeley campus and give out many more handouts to students at UC Berkeley in order to spread awareness and educate people about the hostages and the truth about the conflict. However, it does cost money to print in color and buy the necessary supplies, especially in such large quantities.
So, I hope to raise money to support my efforts - advocating at UC Berkeley for the hostages, Israel, and the Jewish Community.
