Help Share Charlotte’s Story of Healing, Hope, and Horses
SpiritHorse is a powerful true story of redemption, resilience, and the healing bond between humans and horses.
After years lost to addiction, Charlotte Dougherty — a former team roping champion — found her way back to the arena and to herself. Through horses, she discovered a path to sobriety, strength, and purpose, founding SpiritHorse Bay Area, a nonprofit that helps others heal from trauma and addiction through equine-assisted programs.
This short documentary, directed by award-winning filmmaker Isabel Rose Soloaga, follows Charlotte’s journey as she rebuilds her life, raises her grandkids, and empowers her community to believe that no dream is impossible.
Now, we need your help to bring Charlotte’s story to the world.
Your donation will help us:
Send Charlotte to the Equus Film and Arts Festival (November 2025) – where SpiritHorse will premiere and Charlotte will have the chance to share her story with a national audience of filmmakers, horse lovers, and mental health advocates.
Support our ongoing impact and distribution campaign – including screenings, community discussions, and outreach to addiction recovery and equine therapy programs across the country.
