Empower Ranger Calvin to Protect Tanzania's Wildlife

Hello. We met Calvin during an Adventures in Good Company (www.adventuresingoodcompany.com) hiking trip in Tanzania. Calvin has an incredible story, having grown up in a very poor slum and first being awarded a certificate to study wildlife, then working part-time as a ranger to pay for his studies to obtain the equivalent of an Associate Degree. To pay for his Associate Degree and the first year of his Bachelor's degree, he has had to work for 1-2 years and save most of his earnings (he spends three weeks at a time in the remote Ngorongoro Conservation area before having a week off to see his wife and baby girl who live on the other side of the country). He has one more year left to go before he gets his Bachelor's Degree, a truly incredible achievement that Calvin has sacrificed for years in order to achieve. Helping Calvin to get this degree will enable him to do more sophisticated conservation work, and also spend 2 weeks in the field (and thus two weeks at his home) per month.

We have met and worked with many rangers as a hiking guide, and having lived in East Africa. Calvin is special - so personable and passionate for humans, animals, and conservation.

In Calvin's own words:

"Hello friends, My name is Calvin Paschal Mavukilo and I am a park ranger at Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Tanzania. Every day, I work with tourists in walking safari, and take part in anti-poaching patrols to protect our wildlife and conserve the natural heritage of Tanzania. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Management at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA). I have reached my final year, but due to financial challenges, I am struggling to raise the remaining funds needed to complete my studies. I am seeking $4,000 USD to cover: Tuition and university fees, Research and fieldwork expenses, accommodation and meals during the semester, and transportation and study materials.

Completing this degree will not only change my life but also enhance my ability to protect wildlife and support local communities. With this education, I will be better equipped to:

Work at decision-making levels in conservation management,

Provide conservation education to local communities,

Support researchers in ecology and ecosystem studies, and

Promote peaceful co-existence between people and wildlife.

Your contribution—no matter the size—will directly help me complete my education and return to the field with the skills and knowledge to make a lasting impact.

Thank you for supporting a ranger’s dream to protect nature through education.
Together, we can make a difference for people and wildlife in Tanzania.

Calvin,

Ranger – Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Student – Sokoine University of Agriculture"
