Black Women Photographers (BWP) exists to dismantle the barriers that prevent Black and African women creatives from being discovered, commissioned, and fairly compensated. Founded in July 2020 by Polly Irungu, BWP has grown into a global community and resource hub supporting over 2,100 visual artists across 60+ countries.

To date, BWP has distributed over $230,000 in financial grants and provided more than $80,000 in brand-new camera equipment, while offering countless hours of free virtual and in-person educational workshops, portfolio reviews, and networking opportunities.

Through our actively maintained global directory, we connect our members directly with brands, producers, editors, curators, and art buyers—helping ensure Black creatives are not only seen, but hired. Our work also includes free professional development programs and trainings, and annual grant initiatives in partnership with brands like Nikon, SmugMug, and Flickr.

Your support helps us continue offering these vital resources at no cost to our members, expand funding opportunities, and build a more equitable creative industry. By donating or sharing this campaign, you’re investing in our organization and our commitment to increase visibility, access, and sustainable careers for Black and African women visual artists worldwide.

Together, we can ensure this work continues.
