Empower BHS Students to Combat Poverty in Puerto Rico
Donation protected
We are Brighton High School's Service Learning Team! We are 13 students and 3 BHS staff members who are motivated to try to make change in communities in need. For our second year, we have chosen to help Puerto Rico combat the effects of climate change and poverty.
Through service learning, our students use what they have learned in the classroom (Civics, Wold History, and Spanish) to help solve real life problems (poverty, inequality and inequality).
Specifically, from May 23-29th, the BHS team will go to the San Juan Puerto Rico area to re-build houses affected by recent hurricanes and participate in other anti-poverty activities with the guidance of Techos Pa Mi Gente.
This trip will strengthen communities both abroad and at home here in Boston. It will build civic awareness in our students and make them better leaders and communicators as they fundraise, share stories of the resilience they witnessed on the trip, and gain experience living and working in another community.
All of these skills and experiences will help our students be more competitive applicants for college and for jobs, and to become more active citizens and leaders in their communities.
Any amount you can donate to help get us to Puerto Rico would be much appreciated by everyone involved. THANK YOU!
