This fundraiser is being led by a group of Amah Mutsun youth who are collectively organized, self-determined, and self-funded. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, the Amah Mutsun Land Trust, and the Humunya Foundation are not affiliated with the organization of this fundraiser.
The Amah Mutsun Youth Group was formed to help young Tribal members build community. Youth Group mentors encourage Tribal youth to learn about their culture while reconnecting to Tribal lands. Youth learn about leadership and activism.
We proudly protect sacred sites and support the Protect Juristac campaign. The campaign stopped a 403-acre open-pit sand and gravel mining development at Juristac (Huris-tak). Located in Gilroy, Juristac is where our Mutsun ancestors lived and held sacred ceremonies. In 2020, the Youth Group organized a “Protect Juristac Youth Walk.” As a form of ancestral healing, about 15-20 mentors and youth held a prayer ceremony at Mission San Juan Bautista and walked 5 miles to Juristac.
We are now raising funds to reconnect with our homelands, including our plant, water, and all living relatives. We are planning a March camping trip, and your funds will help purchase camping gear, tents, sleeping bags, porta-potties, and enough food to feed 20-30 youth.
