This area is impoverished and faces many challenges but the people are ready and willing to make changes and to work hard to get this agricultural project established. Alusine, the director and organiser of Volunteer Services Sierra Leone, is very experienced and devoted, especially in working with and motivating the youth of Sierra Leone to empower themselves and better their lives.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT GOALS:
1. The goal of this project is to engage the youth to provide ecologically clean vegetables for their communities while offering exciting new ways for children of all ages to learn and grow vegetables cropping which will bring the benefits of gardening to schools.
2. This will help teachers and school professionals to develop gardening projects that teach children where their food comes from, develops their scientific and environmental awareness and encourages them to eat more fruit and vegetables.
3. In order to reach this goal we want to create a vegetable garden farm run by 10 youth as way to demonstrate and encourage other youth to get involved in vegetable plantation.
METHODS OF IMPLEMENTATION:
The Project Coordinator will visit the local community where this project will be implementing in order to determine the number of youth who are going to be involved in the project.
· The project has started with getting Five (5) hectare of land and working on 1 hectare to start with
· The committee will consist of youth.
· About 10 youth will have an opportunity to get involved in this project for a start and more than 1000 community members and other surrounding communities will benefit from this vegetable garden project.
· Money received is going to be spent to purchase the seeds, prepare the land and continue with the Project activities for the following vegetable seasons and improve the livelihood of the youth.
Thus this Project will allow us to provide the community and the surrounding towns with fresh vegetables on a long term basis.
