Emilie's Volunteer Trip to Chile

Thank you so much for visiting my GoFundMe page.
I’m so excited about an amazing opportunity this November that I am so grateful to be a part of and I hope you will be too.
I am so lucky to have been selected as the program assistant to accompany an amazing group of people committed to empowering craftswomen in Villarica, Chile for one week this November.
We will be working with the indigenous Mapuche women, one of the worlds most ancient cultures still in existence. They are incredible artisan weavers.
Artistri Sud empowers women around the world through entrepreneurship. This program will allow me to take part in their Chile project that teaches 20 artisan women, who are trying to create an income from their craft, gain the knowledge to run a successful business. Artistri Sud analyzes how their small business works, together with the women’s capacities and assets, as well as their constraints, to figure out what skills they would need to more effectively run their micro-enterprise—in other words, to help them create a sustainable living from their work.
This is also a train the trainer workshop. 5 local women will be in training to be future trainers. The goal is to have a full team of local women running this program within 3 years. This means that what we accomplish during these 7 days will not only benefit the incredible women in attendance, but this training will continue to benefit the community and its future generations for decades to come. The cycle of poverty is difficult to break and the folks at Artistri Sud are working hard to address the challenges at their source.
Please watch the video below to see how Artistri Sud’s Social Entrepreneurship Training (ASSET) Program has inspired and impacted women artisans to become economically self-sufficient and support their families and communities.
Having grown up in Central America, I have had a first-hand experience with what it is like to live in Latin America and am deeply passionate about helping others. I’m currently in 1st year cegep in North South studies and working with these women is an opportunity that speaks to my heart.
As the program assistant, my role in the project is multifaceted. As I am fully bilingual in Spanish and English I will be conducting interviews, collecting data and supporting the women in understanding questions. I will be assisting the program facilitator and will be giving administrative support. Upon my return, I will continue to work with Artisti Sud and these women throughout their post training.
As a volunteer, I am required to cover my own costs for travel and accommodation. I’m reaching out to friends, family or anyone who is excited about supporting these amazing women in Chile.
I will be sure to share with you my experiences with the Mapuche craftswomen.
This opportunity will only be possible through generous donors like you. Thank you in advance for your support and please feel free to share my GoFundMe page via social media or email with family and friends.
Any donation amount would be gratefully accepted and will be applied directly to my travel and accommodation fees that will enable me to be a part of this incredible team.
