Amie and Evan are a huge part of this community! Whenever someone is in need, they both have stepped up numerous times without hesitation. These two are like family to so many of us, so now is our time to show support in any way we can. #CountyStrong

Approximately 3 weeks ago our daughter Emilie started having severe pain in her upper legs both front and back. We thought it was because she had over-exserted herself by walking and running to a meeting she uad because she thought she was going to be late. Emilie has hypochondroplasia, which is a form of a little person. The pain got so unbearable that Evan took her to Emerg. He explained the situation and the doctor felt her legs and determined it was muscle strain. But the pain continued and seemed to be getting worse. I called my drs office to make an appt but the first available appt wasnt until mid August. So back to Emerg we went. Dr Colby ordered bloodwork and an xray. When the xray came back clear, he researched her condition and found out that some people with hypo suffer from spinal stenosis. He wanted to order an MRI, but to get it done quicker we had to be admitted. So we were admitted to Picton Hospital a week ago, last Tuesday. On Wednesday, we headed to Belleville for an MRI and then back to Picton Hospital where we received the news that it was in fact Spinal Stenosis and that Dr Charriere would have a consult with the doctor and see where we go from here. The next day, Thursday, she came in and said that she had the consult and the dr said that it is severe enough that it needs surgery and they want to do it this weekend. Needless to say, we were very overwhelmed and emotional. We were transferred to KGH on Saturday and met with the dr and he explained what he was going to do. Emilie was put on NPO as of Midnight and was put on the C list for surgery. Not really understanding what that meant, we said okay. Well surgery was postponed, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and finally she went in for 8am this morning. I have taken time off work to be with Emilie this entire time and my work has been great. Unfortunately I don't believe I would qualify for EI because I only work part time. I don't know what recovery time looks like for Emilie. She had two rods put in her back with 8 screws and they decompressed her spine. She is in a lot of pain and it is heartbreaking to see but I will be by her side every step of the way. Her dad luckily was on holidays this week but goes back to work on Monday.
