Emergency in Platanias, S.Pelion, Greece

EN: Our names are Elina and Konstantinos and we are two cousins, tightly associated with the small village of Platanias, located in South Pelion. To those not aware of the 2023 flood tragedy, revolving around many parts of Greece, in the month of September 'Storm Daniel' swept across central Greece triggering landslides, destroying roads, public transportation, basic infrastructure, local businesses and homes. Families were forced to abandon their houses, if they were fortunate enough to still have them in liveable conditions. Families had to actively or passively see their village get destroyed. Some, heavily relied on the local businesses as a source of income however all, had to leave behind cherished memories and possessions.

Nevertheless, our community is a strong one. It is our duty as active members of Platanias, to ensure that we overcome the aftermath of this tragedy. However, we can not do it alone financially. We humbly ask for your support in this time of need, as we are determined to mend this damage.

Any contribution will be sent to the non-profit association of the ‘Platanias community’, which will focus on restoring such damage. Amidst this chaos and despair, the spirit of Platanias remains unbroken. It is our goal to make Platanias return to how it was, to ensure that future generations as well as us, will be grateful enough to experience its beauty.

GR: Είμαστε η Ελίνα και ο Κωνσταντίνος, δυο ξαδέλφια πολύ στενά συνδεδεμένα με το μικρό χωριό του Πλατανιά στο Νότιο Πήλιο. Για όσους δεν γνωρίζουν, τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2023 η καταιγίδα «Daniel» έπληξε τη κεντρική Ελλάδα αφήνοντας πίσω νεκρούς, κατολισθήσεις, κατεστραμμένους δρόμους, μέσα μαζικής μεταφοράς, υποδομές, τοπικές επιχειρήσεις και σπίτια. Πολλές οικογένειες υποχρεώθηκαν να εγκαταλείψουν τις οικίες τους, λίγες από τις οποίες βρίσκονται σε κατοικήσιμη κατάσταση. Ντόπιοι είδαν τον τόπο τους να ισοπεδώνεται σε ένα 24ωρο και κόπους ζωής, αναμνήσεις, περιουσίες να χάνονται, δεδομένου ότι αρκετές οικογένειες βασίζονται σε μεγάλο βαθμό στις επιχειρήσεις τους.

Ωστόσο, έχουμε σχηματίσει ισχυρή κοινότητα. Συνεπώς, αποτελεί καθήκον μας ως ενεργά μέλη να διασφαλίσουμε ότι θα υπερβούμε την τραγωδία αυτήν.

Για αυτό θα ζητήσουμε ταπεινά τη συνδρομή σας! Εξάλλου, είμαστε αποφασισμένοι να αναγεννήσουμε το χωριό καταθέτοντας τα χρήματα στην ΜΚΟ της «Κοινότητας του Πλατανιά» η οποία θα εστιάσει στην αναστροφή των καταστροφών.

Μέσα από το καταποντισμένο χωριό πιστεύουμε ότι το πνεύμα του κόσμου μένει ακόμα ζωντανό κι ότι αυτό θα επαναφέρει τον Πλατανιά στην αρχική ομορφιά του- ή ακόμη θα τον μετατρέψει σε κάτι ακόμα καλύτερο. Αν πιστεύεις ότι το πνεύμα αυτό σε εκφράζει, δείξε έμπρακτα τη στήριξή σου και γίνε μέλος της κοινότητάς μας!
