Friday morning, dozens of young adults and teens who were living at Job Corps Los Angeles received devastating news: their program funding has been paused, effective immediately. They’ve been told they have until Monday to move out.
One of those people is someone I love with all my heart. He will be fine because he has family with resources. He is the exception.
These are motivated teens and young adults, many from low-income or unstable homes, who took initiative, enrolled in Job Corps, and committed to building a better future through workforce training and education.
Now, through no fault of their own, they are facing eviction with no safety net. Most don’t have jobs yet: Job Corps was helping them get there.
It is hard for me to imagine this because I've always had the support of people with resources, but many can’t afford the transportation to get home … if they even have a safe home to return to.
Some are considering sleeping in shelters because they quite literally have nowhere else to go.
You don’t have to believe in government programs like Job Corps to see how wrong it is to close the doors on their home with a 3-day notice. These students did everything right. They were working to make sure they were on a positive, stable, upward trajectory.
And now, they’ve been left stranded.
This fundraiser is a bridge. I am raising money to help them with short-term housing, food, and transportation—basic needs—so they can stay safe while they find new jobs, training programs, or secure housing.
These are scrappy people. They’ll bounce back. But right now, they need help getting from A to B.
I’m getting updates from my family member affiliated with Job Corps about the needs of the students. I will distribute the funds directly for housing, food, and transportation—and share receipts for full transparency. If any money remains unneeded, I will return it to donors or donate it to a verified nonprofit serving this population.
Please give what you can, or share this, or both.
Thank you ♥️
