Covid 19 has reached some of our most vulnerable remote communities in the north west of NSW, plunging them into lockdown. This has created very difficult circumstances for many people who can’t leave their homes and are unable to get food. People are contacting us to say they have completely run out of provisions and are going hungry and are unable to feed their children. This emergency is real and critical and somehow, the government support we would expect in this wealthy country is just not happening.
Unlike in cities or big regional towns, people in remote communities have no access to take away foods and home deliveries, click and collect or other conveniences many of us take for granted in these difficult times. Some of these small towns have only one general store with limited choice of products and are under pressure themselves as supply and distribution are disrupted. Many disadvantaged people in these isolated communities don’t own a car so even normally shared transport for essential foods and medicines becomes impossible in lockdown.
YNB (Yaama Ngunna Baaka) is raising funds to provide emergency boxes for people in need. A $50 donation will enable us to put together a box of essentials that will provide food for a fortnight. We can tailor make these boxes for the elderly, people with babies or children, people with special dietary requirements or whatever is needed.
YNB is on the ground and able to respond quickly. These small towns have many government service providers that are supposed to be assisting the vulnerable people in remote communities but they are slow to respond. We can have food to people as quickly as we can raise funds. Your donation will make a big and immediate difference with 100% of what you donate going to provide essential foods for someone in need. At YNB we are volunteering our time and we are absorbing any administrative costs.
Thank you for your support
