Sri Lanka is currently facing one of its most severe disasters in recent years. Cyclone Ditwah has caused widespread flooding and landslides across the island, leading to devastating loss of life and displacement. Over 600 people have been confirmed dead, more than 200 are still missing, and millions have been affected as homes, roads, and essential infrastructure have been destroyed. Many families have been forced to evacuate, with several communities left without electricity, clean water, or stable shelter.
The Sri Lanka Canada Association is a community-based organization focused on connecting Sri Lankan Canadians, supporting cultural ties, and offering vital assistance during crises in Sri Lanka. This fundraising effort is carried out in partnership with the broader Ottawa Canadian community to address the urgent humanitarian situation.
What We Aim to Do
- Collect donations from Canadians and the Sri Lankan diaspora to support flood-affected communities.
- Transfer all funds directly to the official Sri Lankan Government Disaster Relief Bank Account, ensuring full transparency and alignment with national emergency-response efforts.
- Enable the Sri Lankan government to rapidly distribute aid, including food, clean water, medical support, urgent supplies, and long-term recovery assistance to the hardest-hit regions.
- Provide a unified and reliable channel for Canadians to contribute to an accredited and accountable relief mechanism.
We invite all Canadians, specially members of the Sri Lankan diaspora, community groups, faith organizations, and supporters to stand with Sri Lanka during this national emergency. Every contribution helps rebuild lives and restore stability for families who have lost everything. Thank you very much in advance.
