Emerald Drive Entrance Landscaping Project

Hi, my name is Neil Farmer,  president of Emerald Drive Neighborhood Association , better known as EDNA.  EDNA was formed in 2018 to organize the residents of Emerald Drive and Emerald Court.

EDNA'S Mission Statement:  The Mission of the Emerald Drive Neighborhood Association is to enhance and preserve the quality of life and foster a sense of community in Lake Spivey Estates through efficient and effective management of the Association.  Promote beautification to preserve property values, maintain our entrance, communicate with and advocate for our residents, provide sound financial stewardship, and support initiatives that sustain and improve the value and attributes that make Emerald Drive and Emerald Court a unique and desirable place to live.

On November 30th, 2021 residents met to elect a new EDNA board, approve a proposed budget, and approve a rough plan to improve the neighborhood entrance.  As of December 9th members have already spoken to our county commissioner, Demont Davis regarding our plans.  Always an advocate of beautification, and a Lake Spivey resident, Commissioner Davis was very receptive to what we have proposed and he plans to take it before the full board of commissioners very soon. The county's involvement is to provide an easement along Jodeco Road, which is state owned, and Emerald Drive.

We have already done much to improve the intersection.  In 2019 EDNA removed several Bradford pear trees and had the stumps ground. We contracted with a landscaper to cleanup and mow the area.  In 2020 the county realigned the street to make it safer.  Now it's time to finish the project by enhancing the landscape with plants and some type of hardscape.

The preliminary rough plan includes an 18" high stone wall, a sodded area, several large crepe myrtles, and ground cover.  We are reminded that during previous discussions residents emphasized a desire for low maintenance and drought tolerant plants.  We have voiced those requirements to our landscape design team.  A detailed plan is forthcoming.  We will share that plan with residents as soon as it arrives.  In the meantime, please take a look at our Triangle Committee page to see how we've progressed.

We're expecting that the improvements will cost approximately $15,000 to complete.  We'll have to address the rock hard clay and road bed that likely is still present there.

Please donate and share!
