Elizabeth's Eagle Scout project for Dove's Nest

Hi, I'm Elizabeth, or Lizzie as my friends call me. I am a Life Scout in Troop 249G in Steele Creek. My project is to build a swing set and covered bench at a Dove’s Nest transition home in Charlotte. Dove’s Nest is a non-profit organization that helps women overcome addictions. When women leave the program, they often have no place to go. So Dove’s Nest has bought a series of homes that can house multiple women and their children until they find somewhere to live. Their children need a safe and fun area to play outside, and since the homes are new, there is no playground equipment... yet. My project will give these kids that very thing. As a kid, I always loved swings. It was the highlight of playing on a playground or in my grandma's back yard. I have so many memories that I want other kids to be able to grow up with, especially after the hardships they’ve already gone through so early in life. The covered bench, however, is for the moms. A place where they can sit outside, watch their kids, feel hope for the future, and be at peace knowing brighter days are ahead.
